Ontario’s Education Equity Action Plan (2017)

“Ontario’s Education Equity Action Plan is the province’s roadmap to identifying and eliminating discriminatory practices, systemic barriers and
bias from schools and classrooms to support the potential for all students to succeed.”

Culturally Responsive Pedagogy

Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (2013)

Culture is about ways of knowing … Culture goes much deeper than typical understandings of ethnicity, race and/or faith. It encompasses broad notions of similarity and difference and it is reflected in our students’ multiple social identities and their ways of knowing and of being in the world. In order to ensure that all students feel safe, welcomed and accepted, and inspired
to succeed in a culture of high expectations for learning, schools and classrooms must be responsive to culture.

Ontario, First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework (2007)

The Policy Framework (2007) guides the Indigenous Education Strategy within district school boards, school plans, and classrooms. Board Action Plans for Indigenous Education portfolios are founded in the structure of the framework policy.

Implementation Plan (2014)

First Nation, Métis, and Inuit students in Ontario will have the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to successfully complete their elementary and secondary education in order to
pursue postsecondary education or training and/or to enter the workforce. They will have the traditional and contemporary knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to be socially contributive,
politically active, and economically prosperous citizens of the world. All students in Ontario will have knowledge and appreciation of
contemporary and traditional First Nation, Métis, and Inuit traditions, cultures,
and perspectives.”
